UN urged to stop Iran bombing Iraqi Kurdistan
The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) has urged the United Nations to stop Iran from bombing border villages, a senior official said Wednesday.
'The KRG presented an official memo to the UN office in Erbil, the Iraqi Kurdistan's capital and in Baghdad asking them to help stop Iran from bombing border villages,' KRG Coordinator for UN Affairs Dindar Zebari told a press conference.
Zebari added that around 12 villages were shelled and around 140 families previously fled the area for fear of artillery shelling.
Iranian army artillery frequently shells villages on the Iraqi Kurdistan- Iranian borders where it says rebels from the Iranian Party of Free Life of Kurdistan (PJAK) are based.
