Dear guests, good morning and welcome to this event. I would like to warmly welcome Ambassador Ha Chong Ho, General Jang Kwang-il and General Park Seon-woo.
I am pleased and privileged to be present with you here today to participate in the opening ceremony of the Zaytoun library that is a valuable gift from the people of Korea to the people of Kurdistan.
We in the Kurdistan Region express our sincere thanks and gratitude to the people, the government, and the Korean Army for all the support and cooperation they have offered to us.
Five years ago Korean troops first came to the Kurdistan Region as part of the Coalition Forces under Operation Iraqi Freedom. At that time we did not have much experience and acquaintance with the culture of East Asia, and we did not know then how these troops could possibly help us.
But fortunately it did not take long after their arrival for us to discover that the Koreans are a very friendly and faithful people. They are a people who have a broad knowledge of science and are rich in culture. Therefore we felt that this was a good opportunity for our people to learn from their presence here. The Koreans came with a beautiful message to the Kurdistan Region and Iraq. The message has been, “We are friends” and we have proudly accepted that friendship...
