Kurdistan smoking ban takes effect next month
A law banning smoking in governmental buildings in Iraq's Kurdistan region, which was approved by the regional parliament in 2007, will come into force in early June 2008, an official source from the Kurdistan Ministry of Health said on Wednesday.
"The law will come into effect on June 1, and anyone who lights up illegally will be fined 10,000 Iraqi dinars (1 U.S. dollar =1,121 Iraqi dinars)," Lutfi Sadeeq, the director of the administrative and financial department in the ministry said during a press conference held in the city of Erbil.
