Prime Minister Barzani receives honorary doctorate for progressive vision
Pennylsvania, US – (KRG.org) – Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani today received an honorary Doctor of Public Service degree from Washington & Jefferson College in Pennsylvania.
The university, founded in 1781, is one of America’s oldest and most distinguished liberal arts institutions. It awarded its honorary degree in recognition of Prime Minister Barzani’s progressive vision and leadership.
Accepting the degree on behalf of the people of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, the Prime Minister said, “The Kurdistan Region is the good news story in Iraq that is not regularly reported. We Kurds are committed to a democratic and federal Iraq – an Iraq at peace with itself and with its neighbours.”
Dr Tori Haring-Smith, President of the College, said, “Prime Minister Barzani has been a strong and outspoken ally of the United States throughout his time in public service, and Washington & Jefferson College is taking the initiative to recognise his contributions in the region and his efforts to make a difference through democracy."
