Exhibition season arrives in Kurdistan
"Erbil, target of investors who have a long-term goal in Iraq."
Erbil and Suleimaniya host two international trade fairs, bringing hundreds of local, regional, and international companies together.
Erbil International Fair 2008, organized by IFP Iraq under the auspices of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), opened on October 15 and will run for five days until October 19.
Five-hundred companies in different sectors coming from 22 counties are participating in the fair. A local Kurdish news agency quoted the organizers that 65 percent of the participating companies are foreign, and the other 35 percent are local Iraqi companies.
The fair is expected to serve as a meeting point between Kurdish and foreign companies, investors and businessmen as well as a way to improve trade relations between Kurdistan and foreign countries.
Another effect this and other trade shows are creating are opportunities for Kurdish businessmen and traders to be familiar with new technologies and improvements in the fields of construction, design, electrical equipments, food technologies, agriculture, textile, electronics, and several other sectors.
Erbil has been the main center for business gatherings in Iraq since the 2003 Iraq War. This is due to the fact that it is the capital of the Kurdistan Regional Government, which has proved to be the safe haven of Iraq, with the highest degree of security and political stability compared to other parts of the country. Though there are still risks facing investors, Erbil has become the target of investors who have a long-term goal in Iraq.
The series of trade exhibitions organized in Erbil have shown the interest of foreign investors to bring their capital to the region, and the government funds to rebuild the country have increased the interest of investment in Iraq and especially in Kurdistan Region...
